......LHS News......
Originally sent January 17

In last email I gave the age of Beverly (Rice) Wade as 96. I am sorry for the typo. Beverly was 86 and LHS class of 1942.

I hate to have to report more of our classmates are having troubles but I know you will want to know:

Ralph Purvis, '52, is home with hospice in San Antonio. Ralph has been fighting cancer several years now (result of agent orange). He and my Bill were good buds back in school and also fished a lot back in the day. They were both crappie killers! Good eatin! Bill called Ralph last Friday and had a good visit and shared a lot of good remembrances.

Janette (Hanes) wrote few days ago that Tubba Goodin '54, is in hospital in Oklahoma City with a brain tumor.

'59 classmate LaRue (Locke) Hogate has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She will have surgery toward end of this month & then series of treatments. Prognosis is very good. On a brighter side for LaRue, she is engaged, will be moving to the beautiful Hill Country of Texas soon.

My sister-in-law Lugene (Williams) Mushrush, '54, has been moved (Sat) to a Hospice Care Center in Houston. She has been some better the last couple of days.

And, my sister-in-law Terri Gill, wife of my brother Tim Gill, '70, had a stroke last week. She is currently stable, has gone to OKC and will be undergoing further tests up there.

Please join me in remembering all these dear classmates in prayers.

From the eMail bag:

Sam Hamra emailed from Palm Springs where he was kicked back enjoying a visit with fellow '55 classmate Hattie Jo (Carleton) Hisey. Hattie Jo and her hubby are retired and live there. Tough job relaxing out there in the warm sunshine...but somebody has to do it!!!!!

Bill Stamps, '60 and wife Sharon (Hartline), '62, just celebrated their golden 50th at a reception hosted by their daughter. Bill & Sharon live in Lawton and Bill had some very sweet words to share.....
"Yep old wolverine sweethearts can make it work....Happy to say!! Its been a wonderful ride with a wonderful woman in my life and I thank GOD for her. Bill Stamps (1960)"
Easy to see WHY it's worked so well. Major congrats guys!

Yours truly was heading in CVS drugstore last Wednesday when someone shouted my name across the parking lot. I turned to see a man sitting in a white van. Didn't look familiar at a distance. Then he shouted "Washington School"! That's all the candy it took to lure me closer to the van! He said.."you don't recognize me, do you"? About that time a light went on...."George?....George Karty"! I thought you were dead"! Nope, not, he says! Could have knocked me over!!!! I sure thought George passed years ago.
We visited and his wife came out & he introduced me to her. George says they live part year in Massachusetts - northern part, close to Vermont - and part here. We went to Washington School together, George said when supposed to enter 6th grade they moved a bunch of kids to McKinley, then he joined up 7th grade at Central. Think he graduated high school from an Indian school.
He was doing fine, his once jet black hair, now white! He said to be sure and tell everyone...'he's alive and well'!
Amazing he recognized me and vice versa! Been a lot of years.

Have had a couple of inquiries about deceased classmates (no connection to each other) who passed at very young age(s). If you should have info on either, please pass along to me & I will get it to those asking.

1). Some one has asked for any recollections or remembrances of classmate Jimmy Moore. Jimmy went to Lincoln Elementary, was in LHS class '56, has/had brother, Jo Bob Moore. Jimmy was killed same year he graduated or maybe '57, so his life was way short. But if anyone recalls anything about Jimmy, please pass along to me.

2). Sharon Diana Cowan Rossinni, nickname 'Dolly'. She is pictured as a junior in the 1959 LORE. She died in a car accident in June, 1964, and her name at that time was Sharon Cowan. Her obit lists her address at the time as 907 1/2 I Ave. She attended grade school in Lawton, moved to California, and returned during high school.
Again, any info, please pass along.
Thanks.

Regards to all.............Georgia
