Just a few little tid-bits.....

I had an email from '59 classmate Ken Gross.....he lives up Norman way. He has talked with Jerry Morgan several times and says he is improving overall but still having vision problems. Jerry, you are probably reading this...so hang in there! We're all rootin for you!

Also an email from '59 classmate Allison Woodard who lives down Texas way. Allison said he retiring the first of the year after 43 years with Raython. He & wife Susan plan to stay in the Lucas area, very active with his church and his 8 grandkids! btw....all those grandkids are 6 and UNDER! Don't think Allison will be sitting still very long if at all!!

[due to LHS News].... we have been able to keep advised of all our classmates and the happenings in Lawton. We have been Okies for over a year now, and continue to enjoy being back in our home state, after 38 years of traveling around with the military. We will be celebrating our fifty years of marriage on the 30th of December, and so many didn't think it would last, We are blessed with two children and two grandchildren. All of them will be with us for Christmas and we are eagerly awaiting their arrival tomorrow. Again thank you and we pray God will continue to bless you in 2008. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Gary and Retha Lassetter (living in Mustang)

Email from '59 classmates Ben Ansley down in FL & Wade Harrison here in home town. More '59-ers, Dick Densley up in WA and Ed Adams over in Poteau send me great 'stuff' all the time.
'58 grad Carmen Chandler emailed from snowy CO.

Tom Jackson used to be a reporter for the Lawton paper. He moved to Ohio several years ago but still writes a Monday column on computers and all related to computers and 'sites'. Tom & I were friends when he was here and have remained friends since he and his wife moved. Bless him......in todays Lawton Constitution - Dec. 24 - he has done a great 'article' about the Wolvernet web site. I had no idea he would print most of the info I sent him, but I do thank him so much for the great publicity. I hope more will have opportunity to enjoy the site. If you have access to Lawton paper, its page 5-C.

It's a sunny 65 and just a gorgeous Christmas Eve in the home-town. Well, this Santas' break-time is over so I'll just say..."Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight!" Georgia

I learned that Dr. Robert Weedns' heart bypass surgery was postponed but did take place on Dec. 12. An email from a cousin was sent to me & the cousin expressed that he was doing well, most things 'normal' and re-cooping under way. That was last info I had. Weedn is married to '59 classmate Julie (Ashlock).

I was out of town on Tuesday and had a phone message when I returned. Geneva McIntosh had called to let me know that '59 classmate Jerry Morgan has gone home from the hospital. He is doing alright but Geneva says it will take some PT and time for recovery. I know we all wish Jerry all the best. If you would like to send Jerry & Sybil (wife) a card, their address is: 7501 Newberry Road, Ok City, OK 73141. Home phone is (405) 771-3398.

btw......Blake Shelton continues with NBC's 'battle of the choirs', last night on Thursday.

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table. My wife ask, "Do you know her?""Yes," I sighed. "She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up all those many years ago and I hear she hasn't been sober since.""Unbelievable, " says my wife...."who would have thought a person could go on celebrating that long!!"
There really are two ways to look at everything!!!
(with thanks to '59 classmate Dick Densley)

HO, HO, HO! It's going to be pretty hectic the next few days so I want to take this opportunity to wish each of you and your families a very Merry Christmas. So many have emailed, sent cards, to say 'hello' and to say good things about the 'news'.....I've enjoyed them all and I thank you so much.

Here is link (thanks to '59 classmate Ed) to a very special Christmas song....just for you!!!!! http://www.thecompassgroup.biz/merryxmas.swf

Hope Santa is x-tra good to you and yours....... Georgia

I'm so sorry to report the passing of D.A. Givens, 95, of Lawton. D.A. is the father of '59 classmate Rex Givens and Dee Givens - class '55 - and father-in-law to '59 classmate Babs (Yarmuk) Givens - Dees' wife. Mr. Givens had been ill for some time especially after the passing of his wife some months back. Services will be tomorrow - Wednesday, Dec. 12 - Boulevard Congregational and Christian church (55th and Gore) at 1:00pm. Visitation is scheduled today [Tues] at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home, 10:00am - 7:00pm.

Sharon (Slagle) Meyer - class '61 grad - and husband Lt. Col. (ret) Alan, celebrated their 40th anniversary Sunday, Dec. 9. Alan is originally from MN. Major congrats!

I was told that '59 classmate Julie (Ashlock) Weedn's hubby was to have heart bypass yesterday [Mon] in OKC. I know we all join in wishing him well and adding him to prayer 'list'!!!! They live in Duncan. Will let you know if I can get update.

I thought you might be interested in a look at B & B in Medicine Park. I drove out there last Friday. Was a beautiful afternoon....took a look around at everything. Beautiful fall 'color'. If you haven't been to Medicine Park in a while, its changing...for the good! Lots of improvements and projects under way. Permanent residents. It was always a 'neat' place. Even more so now! http://www.stardustinn.com/

For those not living in state, as of Monday, all 77 counties in Oklahoma have been declared in a 'state of emergency'. Ice everywhere, almost half million without power. A few deaths due to weather. Most in the harder hit areas of Tulsa & OKC. However, some in Lawton were without power Monday afternoon including one of my brothers who lives in area of LHS. No power at Tulsa airport on Monday and all flights cancelled there and most at Will Rogers in OKC.Streets were clear in Lawton on Monday but trees, anything outside, coated with ice. Unfortunately, more forecast for this evening and Wednesday before blowing out of state. Supposed to be gone by Thursday. Hope so!!!!Actually, raining straight down this morning, melting the ice, thunder/lightning, but not sure what evening will bring!!!??

Stay warm....regards.......Georgia

Have gotten definite word on former LHS teacher Pearl Jo Uhland. In Lawton Constitiution obits Thursday morn. Mrs. Uhland passed away on Nov. 10 in Sioux Falls, SD. There will be a memorial service this Saturday, Dec. 8, at Lawton Heights Methodist Church here in Lawton, 2:00pm. Sympathy cards can be sent to the family at <www.beckerfuneral.com>.Mrs. Uhland was originally from Pocasset and came to Lawton and began teaching at LHS in about 1943-44-45? She taught literature and was a librarian until retiring in 1985. She is survived by a daughter and two sons.

I received this note from Roy Sullins. As you recall, Roy was involved in a terrible car accident back in October."Please tell all of our friends that I am now home and that I am doing OK. I believe that after a couple of more months of re-rehab I will be back to almost normal. I do appreciate all that everyone has done for Sue & me.THANKS TO YOU ALL."

I talked with '59 classmate Jerry Morgan last Sunday and he sounded good. He is still having some dizziness and trouble standing but hopefully all will come together soon.Geneva (friend) let me know today [Fri] that he is still in the hospital, takes therapy several times a day, and its going well, just going to take time. His wife Sybil stays with him at night. He is in room 247, you can call him direct if you would like: (405) 486-8247. He really enjoys hearing from friends.

Please join me in keeping all those with health problems in your prayers!

Seems wedding bells may be ringing (or already have) for Ebb McDuffie and Elaine McDuffie....?

Also, wedding bells did ring for Sue (Burton) Jenkins back in September.

I had a great lunch this week with longtime friend Shirley (Brittain) Crumpton Russell. Shirley is class '58 and we have been buds a long time. Had a fun visit and 'discussion' of what happened to who and when!!!! Shirl lives in Lawton but seems we are always so busy and have a difficult time getting together. Gonna change that in New Year! Make lots of time for friends near and dear.

I have been told the LHS Class of 1953 is planning a reunion for July of 2008. I will be getting details and will send as soon as I have them!

And, no details yet on class 1958 - 50th Year Reunion next year, but, it's a reunion in progress!

Its count-down till Christmas......its a busy and hopefully fun and enjoyable time of the year for all of you! Regards to all.......Georgia

Guys...news keeps coming in!!!!

Jerry Morgan was moved to a private room on Friday, but later in day, things changed & he was moved again...this is latest from Geneva and I really appreciate her keeping me/us posted...this is combination of three emails from Geneva:
Jerry Morgan has been moved to another room near rehab. Room #247,
(405) 486-8247. He still not able to stand by himself and still has a headache. Keep him in your prayers.Looks like might take awhile for him to be up on his own. He is able to talk. I was so glad to be able to talk to him. Tonight [Fri] when I talked to him, his words sounded a little slurry, but that could be he was tired and under medication. He does enjoy hearing from his friends. Afternoon sounds like best time to call. You know how hospitals are, they like to get all the test and therapy out of the way as soon as possible.

I had a real nice email from Mike Wyant, class '57, out in CA....he has been back in hospital, had three stents and a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted. He is recuperating at home and feeling much better now. Two of his daughters were in the recent fire hazard area, one had to evacuate because of the fires and Mike had to get what he could in a hurry out of a home he has in San Diego county. Fortunately, the fires missed them and no one hurt. Mike did send this 'request'.......
Please ask our friends to have some special prayer for Caralee Everett, LHS 57 grad. She went through chemotherapy for cancer this year and had to miss the reunion in June. The doctors thought they got it all, however, some more has shown up. She is now changing addresses and I don't know her new one yet, but if anyone wants to send her a greeting, they can send it through me at hmwesca@aol.com and I will forward it to her.

Correction....Marilyn wrote to tell me she missed typed...if you want to help...its Hospice of SWest OKlahoma NOT SEast Oklahoma...!!!

Thought some would remember and might be interested.....a book out by Frank Rush, lll. 400 pages, 200 historical photos of Craterville Park and Sandy Lake Park. If you are in Lawton, the book is supposed to be available at Ramons, Museum of Great Plains, Sadlers Book Store, Meers Store, Howard Council Saddle Shop, Trading Post at Cache or you can order from Frank Rush lll at PO Box 810555, Dallas, TX, 75381. Book is $25.00 which includes tax and shipping if you order by mail. Contacts are (214) 725-6727 or email: frankrush@aol.com

Weather humid, warm, should be pleasant in San Antonio. OU and Mizzou scheduled for 7:00pm (CST) 2 hours and counting (that's 120 minutes Oklahoma time). Anticipation and excitement are building!!!! Bill has the TV warmed up! I have stew/cornbread and apple dumplings on hand to nourish the 'arm-chair' quarterbacks! (7:00pm - CST). I know Johnna (Gordon) and Wayne Parks are field-side in SA. They drove up and met some of their kids from here. Granddaughter Brooke is an OU cheerleader! And, I do know Dick Densley has snow falling (WA) but he has goulash, cornbread, and mince pie to keep him warm! OK......We're fixing to kick-back & EAT! I mean....ROOT for the home team!

GO SOONERS! WIN!

I am so very sorry to learn that our '59 classmate Robert "Bob" Newman is very seriously ill. I received this email forward from his cousin, Nancy (Joyner) McKinnis, and she felt it would be fine to send out so that old friends and classmates would know. Bob is also cousin to Sam Joyner and Joan(Scott), Carol (Scott) and Ronnie Scott.
Bob and wife Marla and son Kevin live in Plano, TX and his daughter that sent this information is in Dallas area.
Bob also has a younger brother Rich, living in Minneapolis......

"I think each of you knows my Dad has been sick, diagnosed with a disease similar to ALS. (Lou Gehrig's disease.) My Dad isn't doing well. The doctors are saying he has one to two months left to live. We are telling family so everyone has time to talk to him again before he passes. We are also trying to gather email addresses so updating everyone will be simpler when he does pass away. We just created a website (the link is below) so you can keep updated on him or send messages via the web as we go on. I know my dad would love to hear from you over the phone though. Their number is 972-608-0020 if you don’t have it handy. Here’s the website, please pass it on to whoever you think might be interested in it.http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/robertnewman Hope you all are well and that each of you has a great Thanksgiving."
Take care, Michele (Newman) Liu; 972-437-0663.

I hope you will all join me and keep Bob and his family in prayers.
btw....I visited the site and ended up sending an email greeting to Bob through the email address of his wife (on the right side of page, scroll down to 'email author').

I also had a call from Marcille (Covey) Southerland. She has been told that Pearl Jo Uhland, a former librarian at LHS, has passed away. I have not heard anything about her and nothing in Lawton paper. She was living out-of-state with some of her children. If anyone has information, please let me or Marcille know. Always hate to hear of a loss.

I know this may not be the best of Thanksgivings for some but I still hope for a wonderful holiday for each of you, filled with those you love - family and friends. Yours truly will be out of pocket for a few days as Bill and I are heading north to spend Thanksgiving with daughter Leslie who lives in area where the pilgrims started this holiday (Boston).....just hope I don't have to wear one of those tacky hats! And I don't like buckles on shoes!! Too sporty!

Warm regards to all...those with health problems are always in my prayers..... Georgia

I am sorry to report several passing in past few days.

Hazel Carnes, 98, in Noble, passed away on Friday, Nov. 9. Formerly of Lawton, I believe Hazel is mother of '60 classmate Beverly (Carnes) Carlson of Las Cruses, NM. Services were Monday afternoon (Nov. 12) in Lawton.

Helen L. "Pudge" (McCain) Banks passed away on Nov. 4 in Bartlett, TN. Helen was born at Fort Sill, grew up in Lawton and graduated LHS in 1948. Hope this is right...but believe Helen was sister to Williston B.P. "Bill" McCain, class '56, who passed away in 2005. A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church Chapel in Lawton at 11:00am on Nov. 30. An online guest book and sympathy cards are at: < www.grayfuneral.com>

Also, Viola M. (Shelton) Hines passed away on Nov 15. Viola grew up in Lawton, graduated LHS in '54, attended Cameron two years, married Ronnie Hines in 1958. Survived by Ronnie, a son, twin daughters. I believe Viola had cancer. Funeral services will be this Monday, Nov. 19, Becker Funeral Home Chapel here in Lawton at 1:30pm. An online guest book and sympathy cards are at: < www.beckerfuneral.com>

I know that Bill Shanklin is very ill and your prayers would be appreciated. Bill has been fighting cancer about 7 years. Bill is class '48, living in Texas, and brother to Bob, Jerry, Jack, sisters Jane and Jean, another sister Judy who is deceased. LHS grads all.

Received this note from Charles Brooks:
I have been trying for years to locate an old friend from the class of '60. Lost contact to Ronnie Evans and his wife Connie back in the '80s. I noticed that someone asked for help in finding someone in the last e-news and thought it was a good idea so I will try it too.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Ronnie Evans class of '60? And, did get this response about Bobby Huddleston Wed. evening:
Mike Harris here, class of 59. I got a call from Ronald Honeycutt this evening and among other things we discussed I asked if he knew about Bobby Huddleston. Ronald told me he talked with Bobby recently, at a funeral I believe he said. In any case, Bobby Huddleston is living in Clinton, Oklahoma and is apparently well.
Mike Harris

Had this email from '59 classmate Jerry (Sasser) Childs: "Just arrived home this week to Niamey from US, but would love to be with you for lunch on Tuesday. The dust is thick and heavy here -- our dust storm season is in full bloom."
Got to visit with Jerry when she was in Oklahoma back in August.
btw...Niamey is in Niger, Africa. Jerry and hubby Ron have been in Africa right at 30 years.

Billie (Suggs) Penn, class '57, told me that she had a copy of a 1911 LHS yearbook that belonged to her Mom. Billies Mom graduated LHS in 1910 and her Dad in 1911. Billie gave the yearbook to the library several years ago.

Had a wonderful, fun lunch on Tuesday. Eight of us got together and exchanged a lot of past history, new info, and had some great laughs. Kay (Pavillard) Otis and hubby Jerry came down from OKC. Jerry was lone male. We were happy to see him and he did seem to have a great time And why wouldn't he with 7 *premier foxes at his table!!!
Kay has had serious health problems and treatment and she was doing fine and looked great!

Also looking great.....Carlana (Fitch) Murray up from Wichita Falls, and locals Janey (Johnston) Scott, Marilyn (Lewis) Smith, Kay (Holsey) Strickland, Pat (Dunn) Doughty, and moi! Fun time. Will try it again after first of year.
*premier foxes.....what Dick Densley called 'us'. Dick is sooooooooo right! Thank you Richard!

Absolutely gorgeous here today! Bill and I have been enjoying the 'joys' of home ownership with chores inside and out! I'm on break right now and taking opportunity to get the 'news' out into cyber space! Regards........ Georgia

I am sorry to report the passing of LHS grads and classmates and sorry I didn't get this out before the funeral:

James Q. 'Jimmy' Wilkinson, Jr, 77, of Lawton, passed away on Nov. 7. Services were today (Sat. Nov. 10). Jimmy graduated LHS, it does not give the year but from his age would have to be about '54? He is survived by a brother Jon; also a sister, Monna Rhea Fullerton.

Also passing, Bobby D. Kelly, 59, of Lawton. She passed away Nov. 8 and services are tomorrow, Sunday Nov. 11, Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00pm. Bobby graduated LHS class '66 and is survived by husband 'Joe' Kelly, a son Cary Allen and a daughter Shannon Nelson. So sorry to hear of both these losses.

This is a note from Joe Scott. It was sent on to me......think Joe would be class '58 but he left early and completed his education in the US Navy. Was told Joe is living in "Mississippi, near the coast".

Hi all! Just a note to let you know I will be leaving for Villa Hermosa, State of Tabasco, Mexico with Jerry Miner, Vice President of Disaster Response, Water Missions International Thursday morning. The State of Tabasco has been flooded in the aftermath of a recent hurricane and the population is in dire need of safe drinking water. WMI (Jerry, who has never installed a system, & I with local volunteers) will place 5 or 6 Living Water Treatment Systems for emergency use. My affiliation with WMI began soon after Katrina came ashore in Mississippi and Louisiana and they asked me to head up the 18 units scattered around in the two states. Later on they asked if I would consider being an International Field Technician on a volunteer basis - long story.... sure, send me. Some of you may know/remember that I traveled to Peru last December to help install several LWTS near the headwaters of the Amazon River. This trip will be much the same except that this trip is an emergency time mode. Keep us in your thoughts. Be well....Joe

I had opportunity to visit with Tom Bullock - class '50 - last week and he told me the 'homecoming queen' in picture last LHS News, Pat Witzell, was in his class of '50. He didn't know about George Miller? Pat is sister to (older Marlene) then, Dody - class ? and Catherine - class '58. All daughters of Jake Witzel (Ford dealer).

Marcille (Covey) Southerland - class '52 - also sent same info on Pat.
I appreciate the help!

Also visited with Jimmy Stanton - class '56. Jimmy collects 'old books' and we talked about the 1912 Lore I acquired recently.
In fact, finally running a picture of the 1912 Lore Editorial Staff (not available here).
btw...can see the unfortunate water damage to book, but overall its not too bad. Don't forget....if you have old yearbooks - LHS or Cameron - please don't toss. Lot of people interested in saving them!

Someone has inquired about '59 classmate Bobby Huddleston. Does anyone know where Bobby is...? What he is doing? If so, please share and I will pass along.

The 'girls of '59' are getting together this next Tuesday, the 13th, for a lunch. If any of you would like to join...you are most welcome! Gerald's Early Bird, 12:00 noon, 405 SW Lee (directly across south from old SWestern Hospital). You don't have to, but might let me know you are coming as I am going to reserve a table. But, if it's last minute....come on! Can always pull up a chair and add water to the soup!!!!!

Received an email from '59 classmate Stella (Price) Naifeh....she said she was so sorry to not be able to join us on Tuesday but she is still in Philippines with the Peace Corps. She did say she will be returning to the States on Dec. 17 and hopes to join us next time. Sure hope so, Stella & hubby have been gone almost a year.

btw....the 'news' continues to grow! Have added several more to 'list' just this past week. If any would like to be added..... let me know. Remember, recent past LHS News archived at:< http://www.thewolvernet.blogspot.com/>. And visit the official LHS web site at: <www.lhswolverines.org>.And the recently formed LHS Alumni Assoc at: <www.lawtonhighalumni.org>

Still enjoying the beautiful fall weather and taking advantage to get ready for St. Nick...yes, early. Takes me longer these days! Warm regards from the 'home town'......Georgia

I am so sorry to report that Arthur Farrington lll passed away on Oct. 31. His sister - Linda, class '66 - had just written me about 3 weeks ago to let me know that Arthur had just been diagnosed with cancer. Arthur graduated LHS in 1960, served in the US Navy on the Kitty Hawk, returned to Lawton and worked at Johnsons Milk Company 20 years then for JC Penny until his retirement in 2007.There will be a memorial service this next Friday, Nov. 9 at the Fort Sill National Cemetery at Elgin, 2:00pm. Arthur also has a sister Alice class '61. So very sorry for this families loss. An on-line guest book and sympathy cards are at < www.grayfuneral.com>

It was good to hear from '59 classmate Dan Glascock that he was not in the CA fire area this time. Dan told me he lost a home in the CA fires about 4 years ago & rather than re-build in San Diego county, he moved. Looks like a good move as some of the fires were back in that same area.

Seems Charles Brooks made a major sibling blunder in last LHS News where I quoted him, he has sent this correction:"Made a mistake about my sister's class. She was class of '60 not '58. Sure hope she's not too upset with those two years I added to her age. I know I'll hear from her but she is a very forgiving sister so I'm safe. Really am enjoying all of the news as I'm sure she is now too." Charles sister is Judy (Brooks) Clark. Gotta keep those years straight! Hope this will smooth things over Charles!! haha!!!!

I was out eating (yes, again). Ran into Jack Leach - class '54 and also Jimmy Ryans, class '58. Had a great visit. Both doing well.

In todays (Wed) Lawton Constitution...the caption under picture reads: "Central Oklahoma alumni who received this card didn't recognize the couple doing the queen crowning in 1952. The football captain is George Miller and the queen is Patricia 'Pat' Witzell. Even though they were both graduates of Lawton High School, the couple never dated until after this moment, and they've now been married for more than 50 years."
WoW! Must have been some kiss!! Do not know what year either graduated? Anyone?

Some have asked & I do know that class of 1958 is starting to get organized toward their 50th reunion next year! Will pass along info as it becomes available to me.

We traveled to Weatherford, OK this past Saturday. Bill is a '57 grad of the SOWSU Pharmacy school. His class was honored on the occasion of their 50th reunion! Bill was one of a few who received a certificate for having a continuous license in OK for past 50 years. It was a fun time and Bill saw many he had not seen in a long time. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful drive.

Several fields of 'King Cotton' waiting for the pickers...I guess machines these days. Looked like blankets of snow. And, I had not seen the 'Oklahoma windmills'.....many located north of Lake Lawtonka, spreading along a ridge cap, and then another large grouping just as you come into Weatherford. Interesting looking things...kinda like a creation out of Star Wars. Going round and round, counter-clock-wise, collecting the 'wind' to make electricity! I found them most interesting. Guess Ben Franklin would be astonished!

Weather changing in the home town...windy, much cooler...chili weather on the way! Some of you are receiving the 'news' for the first time so let me say 'welcome' and remind all, recent past 'issues' of the news are archived at:

I am so sorry to report the passing of Etta Sue (Wilder) Sprague Monsey, 77, of OKC. I have known Sue many, many years, she was such a dear, sweet person. She had been battling Alzheimers for about 7 years. Sue is sister to our '59 classmate Phil Wilder. Her dad Bill Wilder was the head baker and wonderful cake decorator for Johnson's Bakery. He made our wedding cake when Bill & I married in 1965. Sue grew up here & graduated LHS in about 1948. She married Paul Sprague soon after graduation and they have a son Tim and daughter Melissa. Many years later they divorced. Sue later married Bert Monsey, who preceded her in passing.Phil Wilder lives in Colorado with wife Coralyn. Service are this Monday afternoon, Oct. 29, 2:00pm at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond.

Although some decades after 'us'....I also noted the passing of Patricia Kathleen (Huntley) Rube, 48, of Lawton. Patricia was born in Germany but was a 1977 grad of LHS. A memorial services will be at 1:00pm this Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the ballpark at Robinson's Boat Landing (north end of Lake Lawtonka).

I was finally able to visit via phone with Charles and Jackie Darling out in Pasadena. They are both such a delight!!! Charles was so nice and had tried to contact Frankie (Ingraham) Kinderman who was in the 'heart' of the CA fires.

Meanwhile Susan (Hankins) Ellington sent this note:MMorris got hold of Sue Grimes who had Frankie's cell and now we know Frankie and daughter and families are AOK.Thought you'd like to know. Susan

And on the CA fire, received this email today from Mitch Braley:
I talked to some length with high school buddy Charley Jennings of my 1957 LHS class this past weekend. He and Beverly live in Poway, California, East of San Diego, and had a close call with the fires around there about 4 years ago. They are OK this time simply because the last fires just about burned everything around them already. They have had a lot of smoke around their area in the past week or so, and were evacuated last Wednesday. However they are back in their home now are doing OK. While I was talking with him I could hear emergency vehiclesin the background, traveling through the valley below their house.
Joe (LHS class of 56) and Vonda (LHS class of 57) Lansden live in Simi Valley, CA and am concerned also about them. I talked to Marilyn Ann (Gordon) Smith and she was going to call and check on them. I have not heard anything about them as yet. If Marilyn has not talked to them when I call her tonight, I will call and check on the Lansdens and let you know. Mitch

I know there are several classmates in the fire area....so hope all are safe!

This email from Jim Andrews, class '58:
Hi Georgia, just wanted to thank you for all of the updates on Lawton High grads. In one email about the ladies visiting Paul White in NM, just wondered if anyone has Paul's email address. Paul, my brother Hershel, Paul's brother, Kenneth,, and I all played little league baseball for the Roosevelt Dodgers. I lost touch with Paul after he left Lawton for college and have not heard from him since. If anyone has his email address, I would love to have it.
If anyone can help Jim out, send it to me & I forward on.....Jim is living in Salt Lake City.

Received this from Loretta Hartline and no, I didn't know till she filled me in....Hi Georgia, Don't know if you have heard that I am now Managing "The Tea Room". I know everyone thinks 'what is She Doing Now', well it is a lot of fun and I really enjoy seeing everyone. It is a great place to meet our mature friends and classmates. Hope to make it the meeting place for all classes. Want to have a 50's, 60's, 70's, etc day or week or whatever. Anyway wanted to pass it along that I will take good care of all of you who are looking for a place to meet up. Thanks again Georgia for all the news both good and bad we like to know how all our old friends are doing. LorettaThe Tea Room is located at 213 SW 'C' in downtown Lawton. The food is good!

Received a great photo from '59 classmate Robert 'Bob' Meek. (not posted here). From left to right: Barbara Webb, Judy Baker, Deanna Paramore, Eugenia Matthews. ( these girls all LHS class '57) Caption says girls at the train station, Barbara and Deanna were on their way to school in Missouri. Bob says that Judy Baker - married name Tanner - lives and works at same company in Bakersfield as Bob. Hes right...small world! Really appreciate Bob sharing the picture!

We have had several days of just absolutely gorgeous days and nights!!!! Think may change later this week? My Bill is on way home this morn from S. Dakota with truck full of winter provisions - pheasants! Gotta find some glass to put them under! Hope all of you are doing well....Regards from the 'home town' ..... Georgia

I am sorry to report the passing of '59 classmate Beverly (Lucas) Wiles, 67. Beverly passed away on Oct. 12 at her home. She had cancer and that is all the information I have been able to get. I did not see a local obituary and I do not know where she was living. She does have a sister - Sue (Lucas) Hogue who is class '55. So very sorry for the family loss.

Also passing on Oct. 18 was Eileen Mercadante, 61. Eileen, originally of Norman, was wife of John Mercadante, class '63. Eileen also had cancer. Services will be this Monday, Oct. 22 at First Presbyterian Church in Lawton, 10:00am.If the name sounds 'familiar'....Johns folks - Carmen and Helen Mercadante - owned and operated Dantes Italian Restaurant many years here in Lawton. Both are deceased, however, Carmen was brother to Rose Bianco who is still operating Biancos Italian Restaurant at the original location on 2nd street. Opened in 1952. So sorry to hear of Eileen passing.

And another loss, Maurice Coover Elledge, 94, of Lawton. He passed Oct. 19. Services will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel, 632 SW 'C' Ave. Maurice is father to Peggy (Elledge) Long, class '54 and Chris Elledge (wife Debbie) ...not sure of Chris' graduating class - early '60's?

From what I am receiving, Roy Sullins, continues to improve after a very serious car accident. I was told that Roy was class '55 but did quite well and graduated in '54!!! His wife is Sue (Carr). We certainly wish Roy all the best in his recovery.

Please join me in remembering all these with illness and loss in your prayers.

On a lighter note folks....I secured a real 'treasure' this past week. A 1912 LHS Yearbook!!!! Bought it at an auction, out of Tennessee. I am so excited as it is just a wonderful 'archive' of LHS history. I will be sharing pictures and other items from the book with you. So ironic just after Marcille reported seeing a 1904 or 1905 copy of a LHS Yearbook. I hate that this copy has had small water damage...but overall and considering age, it's in good condition!

A lot of the art work was done by one of the seniors that year - Donald (Don) Blanding. The name leaped off the page when I read about the book as I grew up reading Blandings Vagabond House - probably one of the more 'famous' of his written and published prose and introduced to me at an early age by my father, a lover of (some) verse.

It is a 'cord tied' book - no commercial binding - cover is a heavy construction type paper and the pages are done on a nice quality glossy paper. Blanding did the cover art work (see pix on the right). Ads from several businesses of the day. Not unlike later yearbooks.

Several names also spurred recognition - Ned Shepler (freshman that year) went on to start the local newspaper - the Lawton Constitution, still operated by his grandsons; Fay Babbitt, Mary Wolverton, Jay Keegan, all Seniors. I am quite sure 'we' attended school some decades later with offspring of these early LHS grads.

Group picture of the Juniors, Sophmores, and Freshman classes and a group picture of the class of '06. Also, the football team, basketball team, etc. Will be sharing these great photos.

The forward in the book reads:

"The Editors of the LORE present the result of their labors, hoping that they have succeeded in creating an eloquent memorial of their love for old L.H.S., their pride in her achievement and their belief in her glorious future."

To the Classes that Follow
This book is dedicated by the
Class of 1912

Beautiful weather in the home town!!!!! Been outside soaking it up! Regards to all.... Georgia

Zearl Harmon was Dep Supt in charge of personnel. His wife, Ellen was principal at Eisenhower Grade school. Both were super individuals.
Mary Ann (Goode) Pursley - '57

A clarification on the Harmons: Zearl was a Central office administrator at Shoemaker Center and his wife, Ellen, was principal at Eisenhower Elementary until she retired in 1981. Marcille (Covey) Southerland - '52

Hi Georgia - thought I'd reply and touch base. Jerry and I are doing fine - he went to the OU/TX game yesterday and, of course, it was great. I decided that it might be a little warm for me so I very generously gave up my ticket to one of Jerry's sons. Regret I didn't go. Jerry said it got pretty warm but wasn't as bad as we thought it might be. We continue to love living here in OKC. We are very involved with our church and have made some wonderful friends through the church. Take care and hope all is well. Love, Kay (Pavillard) Otis - '59

The inside of the Dome was unfinished which was a letdown to anyone making the climb to the top. You entered the dome by stepping onto a platform as alas! ...no finish on the floor either. If you missed a ceiling joist you went through to the building below. Does anyone know what was under the Dome? Can someone find out? Someone PLEASE take this on as a project as I have been curious all these 50+ years since I was there. My own guess, and I said guess, was the stage of the auditorium because the curtains and backdrops needed a very high space to be raised into.....sounds good to me even if it is a very old idea.To anyone who has visited a dome such as the dome at the Oklahoma state capitol building which is finished knows how beautiful it is .... forget that picture as concerns our unfinished Dome at LJH the windows were dirty...were they ever cleaned? One window was cracked and the smaller of the two cracked pieces had fallen out and pigeons had discovered the Dome Loft of Higher Education. The surprising thing to me was that there were very few birds in residence...maybe they wanted running water. The view since the School was situated on a hill - ok a very small hill - was of the panorama of downtown Lawton circa 1956-57 which was the way all of us remember Lawton. All the downtown was still in place no Urban Destruction invented yet. Of course the view was only enjoyed by the intrepid few who could walk the ceiling joists around the Dome from window to window. Best of memories to one and all. Share them with us now, we'll be in the Historical Society soon enough as it is going now. Thanks Georgia for all the work you are doing and for all the memories you've shared with us. It makes a person feel like a teenager again. Frank Hatch - Denver Colorado, class of 59

Thanks for the update about Dan Green. I have been praying for him. My son Raymond is in Iraq for his third tour of duty now and all of our Military are uppermost in my prayers now. Love and prayers,
Gloria (Lamb) Ervin - '59

Received this email story w/photo (not available here) from Susan (Hankins) Ellington - class '56 - living in Los Alamos, NM. btw....Susan is big sister of Duffy (Hankins) Gilbert - class '60.
Story: Yvonne Coombs, Kay Scott, Myrna Kay Daley, Glenda Stanton, Barbara Odom and Mary Jane Osborne met Saturday, Oct 6, 2007, in Albuquerque, NM, for the 2007 Balloon Festival. On that same day, Larry Hargett drove to Albuquerque from Los Lunas and met the 1956 LHS alumni at the Coach's Sport Bar and Grill to watch the OU/Texas football game televised from Dallas.
While there, Kay called J. W. Hunter (Lawton) who was surprised to talk to the group in Albquerque.
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the women drove to Santa Fe and Mary Thompson joined them to drive to Los Alamos to have dinner with Susan and Newby Ellington and also look at grade school and junior high school pictures.
Wednesday, Oct 10, Mary Jane, Barbara, and Susan met the other women at the Sanctuario in Chimayo to visit the historic shrine and church. Mary Jane, Barbara and Susan had lunch at the Rancho de Chimayo and toured a back road or two before heading back to Pojoaque, NM, to drop off Susan, while the other women headed to Taos to be tourists at the Taos Pueblo and Los Trompas before heading back to Chimayo via the High Road for an evening dinner at the Rancho de Chimayo.Barbara and Mary Jane head back to Albuquerque, Lawton, and Houston on Thursday, while the other women head back to their respective homes on Friday after first stopping in Logan, NM, near Tucumcari, NM, to visit Paul and Gwen White. (A tornado hit in Logan this last Spring/Summer and did some serious damage; Gwen says they were spared.) Susan

Love it! Sounds like major fun!!!!! Thanks Susan for sharing with us!

Appreciate all the comments & photos! I hope all will join me in keeping those classmates with health problems in prayers as well as those serving our country in various locations around the world! God bless them all, God bless our USA! Georgia

Sorry to report passing of Milton T. Nunn, 59, of Lawton. Milton passed on Oct. 6. He was 1967 grad of LHS and brother of class mate Bryan Nunn. Services were in Lawton this past Wednesday.

Some info on Roy Sullins who was involved in a very serious car accident several days ago. Do not know for sure what class Roy was in but he attended the class '56 - 50th reunion. An email (below) from Doyce indicates Roy is in Austin. This is from Roy's daughter Terry a few days ago:

Roy is still in stable condition and all his vital signs are good. They are planning on doing a tracheotomy on him tomorrow to secure a good airway and to continue to support his breathing with the ventilator. He is still on the ventilator and he is breathing some on his own in addition to the machine settings. He is still very medicated and will open his eyes but we do not get any indication that he is aware we are there or what has happened to him. He does respond to the nurses commands on moving his toes and sometimes his fingers. We are grateful he is doing as well as he is and hope for no setbacks. We all appreciate your support and concern and prayers. It has meant a lot to all of us in the family. I will keep you updated in the future. Sincerely, Terry (daughter)

Hello Georgia, just writing to remind everyone of the Oklahoma Centennial Parade in Oklahoma City, Sunday, October 14th, hope to see everyone there. Coincidentally, I bumped in to Sharon and Andy Anderson, showing there Model A Ford at The Good Guys Auto Show at the Texas Motor Speedway, huge show. I never had met them before, but enjoyed the visit. We discussed you and how much we enjoy your service to all of us about Dear Old LHS.
Headed to Austin now, and hopefully can look in on Roy Sullins, while there. Tom Wells has been keeping us updated on his condition.
Thanks! Doyce Grayson

Doyce with the Lawton Rangers will be riding in the parade which is at 2:00pm Sunday afternoon in downtown OKC.

Really good article in this past Sunday Oklahoman (Oct. 7) on Pete Costilow who grew up in Lawton and I believe a 1964 LHS grad. Married to high school sweetheart - Irene, 3 sons including set of twins!
Pete is assistant air traffic manager at Will Rogers World Airport in OKC and holds rank of General in OK Reserves.
Pete is a friend of my brother George - class '63, P.R. Ramey & others in high school. Later he & George were SAE at OU. Pete had a sister - Lenore (Costilow) Riley (deceased) also a LHS grad - about 1954. Good article & color pic - page 3-D.

For those of us who bemoaned the closing of the Wildcat Cafe located in Ramon's Flowers...viola!~ Now open under name of Gerald's Early Bird and new location at 406 Lee Blvd. (directly across south from old SW Hospital).Same cooks, same great food. Open M - S, 6:30am ~ 2:00pm. It's a busy place! Get there early if you want the 'special'!

Yea!......cooler air finally arrives in OK!!!!! Feels much better!!!! Hate to miss the parade on Sunday but it is also my Mom's birthday and have BIG party planned. Mom admits to 39! After that, anyones guess! Regards to all........ Georgia

Guys, I've been gone a little and way too busy, so playing catch-up with some 'news'.....

Noted the passing of Elsie (Gardiner/Gardner) Hearns, 61. Elsie passed away Sept. 20. She was a grad of LHS, have to be about 1964? Also a graduate of Cameron. She is survived by a son and a daughter.

Some may have known Ruth E. (Coryell) Whitten, 94. She passed away on Sept. 22. Ruth was a 1931 grad of LHS and received a degree from Cameron. I remember her husband Lindsey Whitten who was associated with one of the banks here for many years. He passed away in 1990. Ruth is survived by two sons and a daughter.

And most - especially those who grew up here - will remember Paul McClung, 83. Paul died Sept. 30 after a long bout with cancer. Paul was a very colorful 'character' with an award winning career in journalism that spanned some 35+ years. Paul wrote for the Lawton Constitution and after retiring in 1987 he taught at OU, then worked as Director of Public Information at Cameron.Upon retiring at Cameron in 1995, Paul went to Byers (north) Texas and worked the family cattle ranch. Paul won many awards for his writing and was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 1996. He said he enjoyed 'both careers' - writing and cattle - very much. Service was in Byers this past week.

This (good news) update about a week ago from Luther Green (class '57) on his grandson Dan who was injured in Iraq:
We our very happy to say that Dan has finished his third surgery. We will not get to see him for another couple of weeks because his company is due home on the 5th or 6th and he wants to be there to see all of his buddies. We have talked to him by phone and he is happy with the surgery. His doctor said he would like to do a little touch up in about three months but told Dan that his nose looks so good that Dan probably would not let him. It is just so wonderful that he is home and is doing so well. The attached picture is not a recent one but we wanted to send it anyway. Thanks to each and everyone of you for all your prayers and concern for our hero.
BJ & Lou Green

Most of you will remember teacher Zearl Harmon in Jr. High. Think he taught shop and went on to be a principal at one of the grade schools. Just to let you know he just very recently moved to Colorado to be with his son and family. His wife has Alzheimers and is in a care facility in CO. We certainly wish him well.

Pictured below is picture of Andy Anderson with his 1929 Model A Ford. Andy is hubby of '59 classmate Sharon Kay (Cummins) Anderson. They are into antique cars and were at Cache this week-end for Wild, Western Days!!!
(pix may not be available?)

Book recently out, "Forty Years a Legislator", University of Oklahoma Press. Book complied from personal papers & documents belonging to Elmer Thomas. Thomas was grandfather to classmates (siblings) Koehler Thomas, Meredith (deceased) and Bill Thomas. All LHS grads.

Usually we go out to eat after church on Sunday, but home cooking sounded good to both of us today. Of course I cooked!!
While washing up dishes, caught part of the 1955 movie, Love is a Many Splendored Thing - William Holden, Jennifer Jones - along with the very popular song that was theme for movie. Brought back some fond 'school days' memories. ....sigh!

btw...did note, NO scene with Jennifer Jones cooking and washing dishes!

We have classmates who continue with serious health problems, please join me in keeping them in prayers.

Still pretty hot/humid here...waiting on a "cold" front today - using that term loosely! Don't think will cool down much. Saw they had 8" snow in Truckee, CA! Hope its headed this way.... Regards to all..... Georgia

So sorry to hear of the passing of Ernest Littlefield, 69, of Richardson, TX. Ernest is LHS class '56. Ernest passed on Sept. 9 and a memorial service will be held this next Saturday, Sept. 22, 3:00pm at First church of the Nazarene in Richardson.
Ernest wife is Carolyn (Peck) - LHS class '57 or '58? Carolyn is sister of Jimmie Peck, class '55. Ernest is survived by Carolyn, three sons - Kenny, Bobby, & Don. Two sisters - Glenda & Urita and a brother Wayman.
Obit for Ernest is in Lawton Constitution - Tuesday Sept. 18.

I had this remembrance from Doyce Grayson, a friend & classmate of Ernest:

"Ernie was a special individual. I have known him since I was 10 years old. We were paper boys back in those days. Ernie sold individual papers to the businesses and bars in downtown Lawton. He didn't have a regular paper route like the rest of us and we felt sorry for him, little did we know that he was making 2 or 3 times the money we made. He was quite an achiever and always made his living by his wits. He and Carolyn attended the 1956 Class reunion last year, but he could stay just one night because of his health. He was definitely a experience in life and I feel honored to call him my friend. He will be missed!"

Thought you might like to see 'artist rendering' of the new look for the old Lawton High/Central building. This is on the west side looking east, see columns (front - south) to the right. (see at right)

Still working on 'report' on class reunion last weekend...be patient....regards.... Georgia

I ran into '59 classmate Glen Harris at the local IHOP recently. Glen was doing fine. Glen doesn't have email but said his sister Geneva McIntosh keeps him up to speed as does good friend Jerry Morgan.

Received this message about Sara Helen (Chapman) Prater:
Pat (Banks) White sends: Carole Lamberson got a phone call from Tom Prater last evening [must have been Friday?] that Sara condition was going down hill ~ she is in very grave condition. Everything has been removed from her including the ventilator and they are keeping her comfortable. A check with Tom this morning ~ about the same, except breathing is getting more shallow. We need to keep Sara in prayer for freedom from pain and a comfortable transition. Pray for comfort and peace for this wonderful family as they wait for the end of a beautiful life.

So very sorry to hear this. Sara is a dear lady but unfortunately has had serious health problems for some time. Sara is LHS class '52.

Also, so sorry to report the loss of another of our teachers. A.B. Norman, 90, passed away Aug. 21 in Longview, TX. A Memorial service will be held Sept. 15 at Woodland Hills Baptist church in Longview. Mr. Norman had retired after 31 years teaching in LPS and was living in Longview with his wife Mary Jane and daughter Janie, both of whom survive him as well as a son Terry.

Mr. Norman taught at Central, I remember him well and took from him in 7th. What was it, science? He was a rather 'stern, no-nonsense' kinda teacher but very likable. Below is a picture I took of Mr. Norman and Craig Pierson (who I had for English in 7th). This picture was taken outside at Central. I understand that Mr. Pierson committed suicide some years later. Sad. He was a nice guy.
We girls thought he was real cute!!!

Always hate to pass along bad/sad news but knew classmates would want to know. Please join me in keeping both these families in your prayers.

Don't forget...LHS News is being archived at <http://www.thewolvernet.blogspot.com/>
And check out the new Lawton High School Alumni Association - link from the Wolvernet blog or < www.lawtonhighalumni.org> They have memberships, T-shirts, more!

A quick, heavy downpour here this morn, gone, sun peeking through, humid. OU on the field and TV. GO SOONERS - beat Miami! (they did)

Country star and Warner Brothers Records recording artist Blake Shelton [on Wednesday] presented Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry and Project Rebuild with an $100,000 check to assist Oklahomans impacted by recent severe weather and flooding. Shelton recently hosted the second annual RAINDANCE concert in his hometown of Ada to raise money for Oklahomans in need. Just as he did last year, Shelton donated the proceeds to Project Rebuild, a public-private partnership of state officials, faith-based organizations and trade associations that builds and repairs homes for disaster victims.
Blakes dad is LHS classmate 'Dickie' Shelton.

So sorry to hear of illness but so glad all is going well...this from Dean Henderson, '57:
"I'm just now re-surfacing into the real world after a week long hospitalization and it was really nice to see your newsletter. I had a quadruple bypass surgery last week at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in OKC. I had 95% blockage is 2 vessels, 70% in another and 50% in another. That is one fantastic facility. It is the place to go if you have heart treatment. The doctors, nurses and the whole staff are just terrific. I guess I'll sit around on the mend for the next 4 weeks or so."I know all join me in wishing Dean continued improvement in his recovery. btw...Dean lives in Enid and his email is if you would like to wish him well.

Last Call: TWO events: Friday night, Sept. 14, class 1952 will meet at Fireside Mountain Restaurant, 2102 NW Cache Road, 6:00pm...reservations not required; each pays for their own; meet in private room reserved; and this is 55th Reunion of '52 Class. Some had asked about the 'wall' at LHS that was to be built and you could purchase a brick with your name, date of graduation, etc. YES, [some] wall is up. I was told it is located on the east, by the cafeteria. AND, you can still purchase a brick or bricks, which will be added to those already there. A work in progress.
The cost is $30 per brick, each brick has two lines with 15 spaces per line, the form had been on the LHS web site, was removed, but in talking with LHS today, they are going to upload the form to the site this week-end.
Go to: < www.lhswolverines.org> Not sure which 'link'? Check under 'alumni'? You can also pick up a form at LHS.The school said they will be sending 'completed and paid forms' to stone mason the end of September or first of October, so if you want yours in this batch, do it NOW! Will also be able to do later.
btw...I will be attending the reunion on 14-15th with Bill and I will bring some of the forms with me.

Several students from LHS - classes much later than ours - have stared an Alumni Association. They have met, adopted by-laws, etc and there are dues to 'join' this association. Not sure of all the ins and outs but am providing link to their website for you. I think there were plans at one time to include Eisenhower grads as well? So, check it out if you have interest. Its just getting off the ground. <www.lawtonhighalumni.org >

btw....annual LHS vs Eisenhower football rivalry at 7:30pm tonight, Cameron Stadium.

A note to give you an update on Daniel, our grandson. His first surgery went well but has been very painful for him. He will leave Sunday to have his second surgery on Tuesday. He will have two more surgeries after this one. It is amazing what they are doing to reconstruct his nose. He is not a very pretty sight and does not want to go out in public right now, but once they cut the skin from his forehead that has been pulled down to his nose, I think he will feel better about it all. He seems to be taking it all in stride, a true Marine. His time is up in October and he will leave the Marines with three purple hearts, one NAM award and a new nose. Another note of interest, we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary today.
Lou & Barbara Green - Lou is LHS class '57, their grandson was injured serving in Iraq.

This update from Marilyn (Gordon) Smith - class '57:
Wow! those were awesome pictures. Did you notice all the guys had on white shirts and ties......no way today. I think it must have been 1955, that's the year we all discovered Elvis. I wonder if the "Scotty" in Elvis's band is Scotty Moore who, I think, was with him forever. Thank you so much sending these.....I love to see the pictures. Also, wanted to let you know that my daughter Karen is doing really well. She is still having headaches, but they think that is probably part of the healing. She can't drive for another month, so I am doing her running for her. I got cards and e-mails from people I hadn't seen or heard from in years. That was such a wonderful surprise. Thanks for keeping us all in touch with each other. Marilyn

Georgia, here is my Elvis story, I was in the Army in Germany in early '58 when Elvis came over on the USS Randall. I worked in the Company Commanders office and received a copy of Elvis’s Military Orders because we had several soldiers on the same ship. I still have a copy of those orders today locked up in my safety deposit box.. Even though Elvis was just a regular soldier in the 3rd Armored Division( a jeep driver for the company sergeant), he lived off-base in a house in Friedburg Germany with his Grandmother and Father. One of the soldiers in my outfit, the 503rd Aviation Battalion of the 3rd Armored Div , was in Basic Training with Elvis and knew him and took me over to see him one Saturday. He met us a the front door and I was in awe all the time we talked. I asked him about Delores Hart who had starred in a movie with him. (She was sooo gorgeous). He said she was just a bookworm, no real fun to be with. ( Delores later became a Nun and I think is still alive and still a Nun). We got to talk a long time. While we were talking at the front door, there was a Ricky Nelson record playing in the background. A pretty girl came up and put her arms around him ( not Priscilla) and told him he had to go…darn it.
Later I met his Dad and took some pictures. I returned by myself several weeks later and got several autographs which unfortunately I sent off to girls I was writing to at the time. He left in a small convertible with red upholstery. I got some pictures of him leaving in the car. We talked about getting together to play touch football but it never happened.Anyway, I still have the few pictures I took of him and his dad, the house he stayed in and a copy of his orders to go to Germany on the USS Randall. Of course I still have all the memories from the two times we met.Reese Russell - '56

Kay (Kimball) Scott, '56, wrote to tell me that 'blog' is short for web log!! I learn all the time!!!!

Ran into Ivalou Gilliam Friday. Ivalou is class '58 & I asked if anyone was working on their 50th coming up NEXT year! She said not that she was aware of...so.... class 1958...?????

Several of us had a wonderful visit and lunch yesterday.....myself, Suzanne (Jones) Crawford, Marilyn (Lewis) Smith, Carlana (Fitch) Murray - up from Texas - joined classmate Jerry (Sasser) Childs at Salas and had a great time. Jerry lives in Africa and is in the states and 'home' for a visit. Heard from several others who wanted to join but are traveling or at vacation destinations. Jerry & hubby Ron are celebrating their 30 years in Africa and hope to be able to return to the states at least once a year now. Jerry says they still 'love' it and have no plans to return on a permanent basis to the states. Jerry is such a great gal!! Always a joy to visit with her.

btw....some of you other long time 'eat-at-Salas' persons may remember Rita (Salas) Collins. She was one of the daughters of Salas founder Viviano Salas. Rita passed away this week in Dallas. Rita worked at the restaurant different times over the years and I used to visit with her. She was 65. She is survived by a younger sister, Emma Lou in Atlanta. A memorial mass at Lawton Ritter Gray at 7:00pm this (Friday, Aug. 31) evening.

I'm sending this also as a lot of you may also remember Lawton businessman (insurance) Harry Morgensen. Harry, 79, passed away Wednesday evening - had a heart attack while fishing in his tube over near Indiahoma. Harry was a personal friend as is wife Kathleen. He was major sportsman, gun-enthusiast! Such a surprise and so sorry for this loss. Only info at this time is that services will be on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Hope all of you have a great holiday week-end!!!! I will be away from my computer until Monday evening...so put the 'news' on hold! haha! .......Georgia
