......LHS News......
Originally sent Sept. 19

There have been almost a dozen new persons ask to receive the news this past month. I just want to say welcome and hope you will enjoy the sporadic (as news happens). A reminder that past news, as well as pictures, are archived at
< http://www.thewolvernet.blogspot.com/> Again, welcome and hope you enjoy!

I am sorry that I overlooked the passing of one of our '59 classmates. Myrna LaDaune (Baughman) Ostrom, 67, of Marlow passed on Sept. 7 and services were in Marlow on Sept. 10. Myrna had been living in Marlow the past 35 years. She is survived by husband Donald E. Ostrom, a daughter Stacy Marine and a brother, Jimmy Baughman of Lawton.
There is currently an on line guest book at: <http://www.callawaysmithcobb.com/>

Had an email from '59 classmate Phil Wilder up Colorado way. Phil asked us to remember his son in prayers. His son Tim was due for 'retirement' from the Air Force very soon but when asked to return to Iraq, he re-enlisted for two more years! I know my prayers will be with Tim and with friends we have serving along with all the brave men and women we have fighting for us around the globe.

Phil also sent along this email from classmate Randy Parker who lives in Friendswood, TX, a suburb of Houston.Randy wrote ..
"We are ok. no power, but all safe. No damage to home. Lost some trees. All children ok too. Can't buy gas, little food or ice. Must stand in long lines to get. Thanks for checking. Randy & Gloria"

Big tree lost in yard at home of Johnna (Gordon) & Wayne Parks just south of Houston. They are back home in Lawton since July but still have home in Sugarland.

My Bill's sister, Lugene - class '54 - lives in high-rise condo in River Oaks area and had to evacuate because of power loss. Also nephew in same area with flooded basement, tree loss, power off. That area still without power and looks like at least another week. I know many had family members and friends in the storm area. Fortunately, I have not heard of any injuries.

There was some discussion some emails back about buildings, etc., that used to be downtown. One mentioned was the Orpheum Theater and the only ones who really could recall it were LHS grads of 30's - 40's.

I appreciate Yvonne (Anderson) Coombs, class '56, sending me the picture at bottom. (only in original email). It is an ad from the Lawton Constitution in 1920 and according to phone book the Orpheum was indeed a theater and located at 216 'C' Avenue. ('deep C' as it came to be called). Was this possibly what became the Ritz in later years?
Don't know actress Priscilla Dean .......but apparently a 'vixen'! Also, Yvonne says bottom of ad states "orchestra evenings" so assume these were silent films and there was a 'live' orchestra!

Recently we ran a picture asking 'guess who'...? Handsome guy, all dressed up in white tux and ready to go. Several actually guessed, others missed. Sam Joyner thought it was Buddy Holley and you know, it does look a lot like BH! But for all...it IS....'59 classmate Ed Adams!

The dates of October 2-3 , 2009 (next year) have been chosen for LHS Class 1959 - 50th Reunion! '59'ers, mark your calendar NOW and start making plans to be here for this very special occasion! Guests are also welcome!

Regards to all from the home town where the weather is GORGEOUS! Georgia
